Thinking About Roman Empire Is Newest TikTok Trend

Do you ever think about the Roman Empire? Even though it ended in 476, its influence can still be seen today.

The Romans gave the Western world many things like roads, books, and calendars. Latin, the official language of the Roman Empire, is also the basis for modern languages like Italian, Spanish, and French.

Surprisingly, the Roman Empire has had an unexpected impact on social media, particularly on TikTok. A trend has emerged where women ask men, often their partners or family members, how often they think about the Roman Empire.

Many men in these videos said they think about it quite a bit, with some even saying every day. Videos with the hashtag "romanempire" on TikTok have over a billion views.

Interestingly, this trend began on Instagram, initiated by a Swedish history influencer named Artur Hulu, who is part of a Roman re-enactment group. He posts videos and funny sketches dressed as a Roman soldier.

Hulu encouraged women to ask men about their thoughts on the Roman Empire, and many were surprised by the responses.

Speaking to The Washington Post, Hulu explained that he noticed a significant gender gap in interest in Roman history. In his re-enactment society, there are 16 men and only two women.
